I’ve Been Rear Ended!
The Damage May Be Worse than You Think
2 out of every 5 traffic accidents in the US are rear end collisions. Whether someone was looking at their phone, gabbing with a passenger, dropped something, or simply following too close, the fortunate outcome is that many rear-end collisions aren’t life threatening.
The damage done will often look superficial: broken lights, cracked bumpers, dented tailgates, and the like. What you don’t see, however, is the true damage that may be a lot worse than you realize. Here are a few problems that you may encounter after you have been rear ended.
Wheel Alignment Out-of-Whack
Wheel alignment is one of those things that you don’t think about until yours is off. The problem is that often the miss-alignment is so minimal that you don’t really think about it; you may think that pull is just the curvature of the road. Eventually, you end up with some serious issues that can be dangerous and much more costly to remedy (tires aren’t cheap!).
A good auto body repair shop will know to look for the wheel alignment. They will do the repairs, and before the vehicle is turned back over to you, it is made sure to drive straight and keep straight on the road.
Messed up Frame
Your vehicle’s shell has 2 main parts: the frame and the body. The body is what you sit in and what you see, while the frame is what the body attaches too and supports the weight of everything. Frames, although incredibly sturdy, can be bent.
When the frame is bent, it needs to be repaired to prevent further damage. Fortunately, here at A & D, we are determined to be the best auto body repair shop in the state; we will fix it the right way.
The trunk doesn’t seem like a big deal, after all who cares if it’s a bit dented right? The problems here are a bit more than just a dented trunk. After being rear ended, you could end up with some serious problems.
A trunk that doesn’t stay closed can be a safety hazard if you’re zipping down the highway. One that doesn’t lock can cause security issues that may involve thieves getting into your vehicle. A seal that is no longer tight means water can get in, and you end up with mold problems and your emergency kit is destroyed.
Problems with the Electrical System
Many new vehicles have complex electrical systems. The wiring for these systems will often go through areas of the vehicle that are easier to get at, require less attention to detail, and can have panels that pop over the wires. The perfect place: the back of the vehicle.
Beyond that, even a light bump that doesn’t seem to be a big deal can knock out your tail and brake lights, meaning you’re no longer safe on the road. The sound system can be damaged, and that’s just plain irritating not getting your music. Plus, if something shorts, it could result in a dead battery.
