Choose Your Own Auto Body Shop
It is Your Right to Choose an Auto Body Shop
Accidents will happen. It’s a sad reality that we all have to face and accept. That doesn’t mean, though, that you should altogether stop being careful because you know that no matter how careful you are, it still isn’t a 100% guarantee that you will never be involved in an accident.
On the contrary, every time you’re on the road, you should always focus and stay on your toes, so to speak. This way, you can at least make sure that if you do get involved in an accident, it will only be a minor one.
So what happens if you do get in an accident?
For starters, you should let your insurance provider know. While some might think that it will be better not to because it might mean a hike in your premiums, we want to make it clear that it won’t always be the case because adjusting your premiums is dependent on several factors including the severity of the accident, your driving record, and whose fault the accident was. Make no mistake about it, though. The possibility of a premium rate increase is there; it’s just not automatic.
Among the benefits of informing your insurance company about being in an accident is the fact that they most likely have a network of connections, including affiliations with certain auto repair shops. This means if you have no idea where to bring your car for repair, you’ll have a starting point: the name or names of shops recommended by your insurance company. Of course, if you’re on the A & D Autobody website, then you do have a starting point already…
The question is: are you required to bring your car to the recommended auto body shops?
The answer? Absolutely not! Remember that those are just recommendations. It will still be up to you to decide which shop will serve your needs best.
How do you decide which repair shop to go to?
You can make the decision a little easier by choosing one of the recommended auto body shops. But that’s just a first step. If there are several recommendations, you will still have to decide exactly which one. We know it will take some effort and maybe a considerable amount of time. But you will have to do some research to ensure that you make the right choice.
At the very least, try and get around 2 – 3 estimates. This is particularly important if the cost of repair will not be entirely covered by your insurance. Also, consider the location of the shop, and if it specializes or has experience in dealing with your particular car brand (keep in mind we are certified with the majority of the major brands).
If you have a way to do so, try to find out what kind of feedback customers have been saying about the service provided by the auto body shop. Of course, you should stay away from those with negative feedback and only limit your choices to reputable shops that provide satisfactory service at reasonable rates.
Finally and most importantly, keep in mind that though the inclination to choose the shop with the lowest rate can sometimes be too strong to resist, it can never be emphasized enough that cost should not always be the ultimate deciding factor. Especially if the damage that needs repair has something to do with your engine and your car’s driving performance, it doesn’t make sense to choose cost over quality because you’ll be putting your safety on the line just to save a few hundred bucks. It’s not really a fair trade-off, don’t you think?
The bottom line is this: as much as you can, opt for an auto body shop that provides the highest quality repairs instead of the lowest price.
