3 Step Guide to Keeping Your Car Looking New
Don’t Skip Steps to Make it Last
When you first get your vehicle, you are meticulous. Nobody leaves a wrapper in it, crumbs are vacuumed up immediately, you wash it, and you wax it. But over time, you get a little complacent. It’s not a big deal to leave a couple of wrappers until you have a little more time. That weekly washing turns into every other week, and eventually a month. You can’t remember when the last time you waxed your car was.
Sound familiar? If so, you’re like the majority of people.
As we strive to be the best auto body repair shop in Bozeman, we want to give you the tips you need to keep a great looking car. After all, a clean car is a safe car. The first thing you have to do is create a schedule, and then stick to it. When it’s a part of your regular life, you will be more likely to not become complacent. On that schedule, have these car care activities.
Wash and Vacuum Every Other Week
Dirt will build up on the car; most of that dirt you want to clean off sooner rather than later. While rain splotches and mud splatters can be unsightly, some of the other dirt is going to end up doing more damage. Tree sap and bird droppings can be acidic. When they are allowed to remain on the car’s paint for too long they end up discoloring and, in some cases, eating away at the paint.
The interior will last longer when the dirt is gone. Dirt and sand can get into the carpet and upholstery wearing them out prematurely. Maintaining the dashboard will prevent fading and cracks. And of course clean windows are easier to see out of helping to prevent crashes.
Wax Every Three Months
Your car comes with multiple layers of paint over the metal. The base is a primer, then the paint that holds the color, and finally several layers of a clear coat. That clear coat will help to maintain the vehicle’s luster, but it needs to be protected so that it won’t wear out.
Waxing helps your vehicle shed water and dirt better than if it goes without wax. Getting that dirt off will prevent the vehicle’s clear coat from wearing down. If that happens your paint job will ultimately oxidize. A fresh wax job every three months will ensure that the paint is protected from whatever weather comes our way.
Detail Every Six Months
Washing and vacuuming are great, but unless you’re spending hours you can’t get all of the dirt that will build up. Especially as you transition through the Montana seasons. That’s why we offer auto detailing. When you don’t have 4 or 5 hours to put into making sure your vehicle is as clean as possible, we do it for you.
After a hot summer, it’s important to get all the bits of sticky road grime off so that you can go into the next seasons with a protected and clean car. In the spring, after a long winter of dirty roads and sand with a bit of salt in it, you want to maintain that shine so your car can sparkle on into the summer months.
